But is it “direct” – both in terms of stylistic correspondence to the spirit of the zero, and in terms of banal playfulness?

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk still at the stage of the announcement and trailers managed to turn the vector of my expectations, becoming the most anticipated by Wishlist, then the omen of a large idle shot. At first, the “lizards” are pleased with the beautiful views of the futuristic New Amsterdam, then they show the inflated locations in which there is no street life. Then they demonstrate funny chips using a phone, then simply copy entire segments of locations from Jet Set Radio Future. Moreover, they imitate Future, and not the first part, which affected the game much stronger than it might seem at first glance – but we will still reach that. In general, even with all the abundance of trailers, it was not completely clear what this mishmash of “cool” and “illegitimate” would turn out on the release.

Well, the game came out … in August. Exactly between Baldur’s Gate 3 and Armored Core VI, on the side, propagated by another indie-long construction in the person of SEA of Stars, which I also have plans. TEAM Reptile courage is not to occupy – but even more interesting! Let’s see whether modern street youth worthy of competing with the sincerity and variegation of the real classics of the zero, when GG’s-workers were repulsed by the artistic decomposition of Tokyo streets … And whether it should be borne at all with it. Maybe Bomb Rush gang has other goals and its own path.

And no, I’m not getting to the fact that now it will be about gameplay, difficulties of development and other things that are important for reviewing. It’s time. Cross. To the point! We are all adult boys and girls, so it makes no sense to pretend that we do not understand something. Perhaps in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is simply an amazing gameplay that affects the smoothness of movements and responsiveness of control. And I even fully admit that Team Reptile did not forget to pour more a plot into the game, justifying the fountain of color spray, filling the screen. But we will be honest: from the release of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk you expect not only momentary carnal pleasures. You wait for him ..

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk soundtrack – not just a storehouse. This, his mother, is a pool that seems serene, but only until the moment, until you climb into it with your head. On the one hand, a collection of 31 tracks for a simple arcade jump with a simple type of arcade jump already looks solid, but on the other … this is what albums with music from Jet Set Radio were noteworthy? The fact that their own works of the SEGA internal composers in them harmoniously intertwined with licensed tracks performed by a deep-deep undergrand and a couple of famous performers. And although the “imports” in the dilogy sounded a lot, the main backbone of JSR music was clear bits behind the authorship of Naganums, Jacques and other guys.

But Dion Bonfire – the head of the development in the body of a simple Breakdanceor – decided to go even further and assemble the sound background for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk from everything that he will get on his eyes and will not be too much to put pressure on the cage of the studio. As a result, he walked a vacuum cleaner at the corners of Bandcamp’s and on the studio of the studio already established by previous games and made an impressive playlist, in which there were practically no place for tracks written specifically for the game. Unless Naganum was dragged by a suitcase with money from Twitter’s and anxious by writing a new music. There were enough finances to the “lizards”, however, only three tracks from the memorial grandfather, but they also significantly brightened up the player -library of the game … Even though they did not completely set off in it.

And this is very funny, because with all the visual similarities of the game with Jet Set Radio, with which the blind could argue with the musical plan, Dion Koster clearly pushed personal musical tastes, and the same naganum got into the game only because “well, what a jsr clone without naganum, you collapsed?»The first part sounded, although it was shy, but rather softly and measured enough so that slices of Fanca and Soul cut into sample do not lose their » kachoviness « . The futuristic sequel threw stiffness, adding to the already familiar style of semiclifted guitars and sharp electronic bits and compacting the sound so that it has nowhere to translate the ear.

How does Bomb Rush Cyberfunk « playing » in the end? As a fruit of sin Kraftwerk and Daft Punk with rare nods towards the classics of zero and even deeper classics of the eighties – so in music everything is flooded with electronics and synthetic sound. The subject, however, obliges-after all, the game went into futurism with the head (hehe), therefore it required the mood that was required: creaking, clicking, ringing. And in general, this definition is suitable for all the invited composition with Bandcamp – powerful shock, chopped speech, often missed through the wokoder, more emphasis on the rhythm, and not on the melody … and surprisingly transparent arrangement, sometimes reaching a simple set of drums without a purpose and meaning.

The latter emphasizes the music of the game, because not a single JSR could afford such a simple sound. The Operator track for the authorship of the GRRL, in which Dion Bonfire believed so much that in one of the trailers he used, for example, built around the entire pair of voice seeds and an apostate rhythm stretched from edge to edge. But who has twisted minimalism to the limit is Color Plus with the Hair Dun Nails Dun track. There are no melodies in it at all. Just one unhappy Semple, fixated into an endless-eternal, and the same fixed batch of drums … I must admit that it is very swaying-but before that you need to somehow survive a whole minute of a repeated piece of text, which will continue to rape the brain in the « tasty » part!

But the soundtrack Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is not only a soulless stirring of dramas-machines. The main charge of the “soul”, which gives the same “swinging” sensation from the muscle, is laid in Funk Express behind the authorship of the Mexican under the pseudonym Prux. This, by the way, is one of the few compositions that can be called a game exclusive. Since the original version did not reach even to two minutes, Prux expanded it almost by two times for BRC. The cooler of it is only Big City Life from Kidkanevil, written for the game, and not taken from the Contractor’s discography … Against the background of which, by the way, is now very highlighted, so if you suddenly want additives, then in the works of Kidkanevil you will find a little the wrong music.

The raid of even greater vintage brought Siprien Stew as part of the Leopard Davinci solo project. His song Next to Me is an excellent mix of Italo-disko and Fanca, giving a break from electronic threshers and plunge at a time when everything was slow, but therefore no less fun. But they are an order of magnitude more energy in them than in general in album.

As a result, such a scheme is developed: we study the new region of the city both in breadth and upward, we will wave our graffiti on top of strangers, attract the attention of local gangs, humiliate them on their own field, get to the leader and humiliate him already. Rinse & Repeat. And all this on the open streets of New Amsterdam, where no one forcibly drives you to the next point on the map. I will get tired of any garbage – you can continue the plot … unless, of course, by that time you will not forget who to continue it at all.

And here’s what I still noticed: aren’t some New Amsterdam regions too much like a futuristic Tokyo from Jet Set Radio Future? The bus station in Brink Terminal can hardly be distinguished from it in Sibe-Tyo up to the palette. And if this can still be called random similarity, then Mataan with its night atmosphere, skyscraper and Egyptian inserts are already too obvious tracing paper from the pharaoh of the park from JSRF.

But come on, back to the one who and how to continue the plot if you got so carried away by the parkor. More a shame for the characters who differ only in appearance. I mean, why should I choose someone at all, if they are played more or less the same? Well, yes, the starting means of transportation for everyone is different, but any character can choose a scooter to taste on the basis of Bomb Rush, which will not affect its abilities or characteristics. It turns out especially funny with secret rateers. In order to convince them to join the gang, oh how to try, and the result is just a new “skin”, stretched over the same set of gaming mechanics.

In theory, an abundance of various graffiti could serve as a special point of diversity. Their starting set in the heads of our rateers is not very large, and they must first be unlocked, finding new arts in the form of logos scattered around the city. The very process of their direct application to the surface is a laconic mini-game of the type of « connecting ». Thus, the cunning Team Reptile were able to put the whole variety of designs in one mechanics: you literally choose graffiti with how you “draw it”, connecting the points. How to find out which combination for which graffiti is responsible? Everything is in your smartphone. =)

But here is the problem: this mini-game is stretched to the whole game at some point generally ceases to cause any emotions. In addition, the very procedure for applying art to the property of the city stops time, because in the process of “creation” no one and nothing to prevent you from preventing you from. It seems to be good, but somehow too … well, it became safe to lawless. Of course, the cops will try to suppress illegal attempts to stain New Amsterdam, but they will not be suitable for horseshoes will not be suitable for the police raids of Captain Onisima from Jet Set Radio, who called special forces, a tank platoon and raised fighters on any sneezer’s sneezer.

Why should I beat them at all then?

It is also funny that the authors honestly “spied” the GTA series with the mechanics of police raids. The more actively you spoil the everyday grayness of New Amsterdam, the higher your crime rate. At first, it is worth expecting only lazy cops, then automatic turrets will be connected, shooting handcuffs with thermal guidance, and if you completely lose their heads, then the snipers will be put down against you paired with apache, which inadvertently can be beaten if you stupid. Although the health of the heroes is automatically restored in moments of calm, it is still not eternal, because the final borders of the game may well be difficult to survive. The problem is that the crime rate does not decrease on its own, and you can throw it only in one way – to reproach in the locker room. Yes, from the change of white T -shirt to green all the servants of the law immediately lose you … Strange – but if it works, then I will not ask unnecessary questions.

Here, it would seem, I am a step away from making the game straight for the fact that there is practically nothing in it, for which it would be worth playing it. And there is no difficulty, and the characters are the same, and there are not enough techniques, and the cops are endless. I say this and I understand that I have been suffering from some kind of garbage in the city for half an hour, after a couple of Trickoia, I found myself in a completely different part of New Amstredam, completely forgetting what to do next in the plot. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has some truly supernatural ability to involve the gameplay in the way the characters simply overcome the folds of the area. I jumped here, jumped there, quickly oriented himself in the situation and chose the most logical solution-there is something hypnotic in what tasks the city itself sets and what solutions he offers to choose from.

But this is what I really did not have enough is some Tony Hawk’s Challenge, who would have met on locations even without any justification from the script. Collect all the letters S-K-A-T-E there, breaking the record for a while, hold the longest combo-binding-well, at least something! Technically, “something” is still and limited by robots-dieschers who need to prescribe a five-year-old on one combination to get a pleasant bonus-but this is the only type of optional leisure entered the game. So, new tracks for the playlist, graffiti, clothes and even new videos/skate/bicycles are still scattered around the city, but you do not perceive them as a form of competition. Something comes under the feet-well, good.

Simplifies the game also an almost complete absence of ways to get somewhere. It’s not that you can’t stumble on the fold of the area and dig a trench with your nose – even gravity is unable to harm you. And believe me, I fell very, very low – at least henna characters. Sharp as knives in the eyes, heat in the ears-an ideal combination for creating an unrealistic, but at the same time stylish dimension that exists in the darkness of someone else’s mind.

But occasionally – quite occasionally – in the game there are moments that I cannot name otherwise than mocking. For example, this barely noticeable hole. Not only is the location where it was hidden is semi -secret and requires to open a reputation more than necessary in the plot, and it is simply impossible to get to this ventilation mine. It is realistic to do this only by the method of Old Jokers in the first person, when it is necessary to jump along the barely noticeable landfills sticking out of the wall. I tried to jump along the wall for an hour, and when I finally did it, I opened … some strange and very narrow maze, who is somewhere in the area of ​​the Earth, judging how long I fell. And in the maze I found … nothing. Nothing! I was just a few minutes of wandering spit out in the center of the region. What could it mean ..

Karoch, I googled. It turns out that in one part of this labyrinth there is an oh-very inconspicuous hole, where you can penetrate only with a tackle, opening another part of these incomprehensible catacombs. And at the end of this labyrinth there was already something! Or rather, sarcophagus. Just a sarcophagus. Here, lies here calmly, it does not ask. But it turned out that this is not the only secret location! A similar maze can be found in another part of New Amsterdam, and if it is explored from the edge to the edge, you will find just a bunch of strange rooms. In one of them there will be an abyss, and if you are seized in it, then at the bottom the hero will find a lonely building and a tree. I don’t remember, by the way, that I can see at least one real living tree in the game … And yet, why it was all? As if the authors specially made Easter eggs so that Oddheader’s had something to talk about on their channel.

On this review, in general, you can finish. Team Reptile somehow could copy the form Jet Set Radio Future to the root, but not to transfer any of its sores. The spacious streets of New Amsterdam are interesting as much as you yourself will have fun to study it both up and upward, and the script overgrown with an impermissible for a series of roller insanity by intrigue, gradually revealing the events from the perspective of ordinary people who fell into a difficult situation.

And although the gameplay in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was not as many as I would like, with a short duration of the game, he would not have time to get bored. Pure arcade charm, pleasing to the process itself and does not force any routine. You will rather forget to follow the plot yourself, getting carried away by Parkur, the plot torture you with the performance of the same type of tasks. After passing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk I want only one thing – all the same, only more, more diverse, cooler. I hope that the success of the game will nevertheless bring to the “lizards” enough money to have enough for quantitative and qualitative growth.
